As with anything made from plastic, synthetic turf can heat up on extremely hot days. This can make it not as pleasant as usual to walk on in bare feet, but there are ways you can keep it cool so you can continue to enjoy its use as much as you usually do.
Artificial grass that is in contact with direct sunlight is, of course, the most likely to heat up as the day gets hotter. Under direct sunlight, astro turf can feel as much as ten degrees warmer to the touch than real grass, but it will not continue to radiate head if it is not under direct sunlight as the day continues. This is also the case for turf in shaded areas on a hot day – if it’s not in the sun, it won’t heat up as much. If you can provide shade – with an awning or parasol, perhaps – you can help keep your grass, and yourself, cool.
On excessively hot days, the best way of cooling your synthetic turf down is to mist it with a hose. This light application of water, which can be administered via a sprinkler or a sprinkler attachment on a hose – or even with a spray bottle of water – will help cool your artificial grass down and ensure it is safe and enjoyable to walk, run, lie, and play on for you and your family. It should also be noted that for artificial grass to heat up to the point where it is painful to walk on, it would have to be a very, very hot day!
